Faith based engagement

“There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.” Desmond Tutu

Faith-based organisations in Northern Ireland have an important and distinctive place and reach in society and their community work plays an important role in communities where they deliver many interventions on various themes by engaging large numbers of volunteers in a range of social and community development activities.  In recognition of this the Department for Communities currently funds a Faith Based Engagement Strand under the Regional Infrastructure Support Programme (RISP). This funding programme is under review however, in the interim, NICVA and RCN are supporting some of this work including providing direct support to faith based organisations through a range of seminars and training sessions.
